Beginners' Tier Features Enhancements

The Feb 2026 release allows you to select aspects and palace perspectives of interest!!

For example, the user has natal, decade, annual and monthly aspects but he is only interested in the decade aspects. 

The user clicks on the Decade toggle chip and the write up for the decade property aspects is provided.  You can scroll to view the stars information in the palace. 

Palace perspectives have been upgraded, in the example below, the user is interested in his/her spouse's selected decade luck cycle.  

The user selects the aspect of interest and the chart is updated from the spouse's perspective.  The UI presents a nice way to the interactions between the spouse and user chart in single pane of glass.  You can select another detail e.g. children, give you a multi-facet view user, spouse and child interaction.

How to use Zi Wei Chart Free Edition

Navigate to Zi Wei Chart aka Purple Star astrology hyperlink e.g. https://ziweichart.com  

English is default locale and we support multiple locales e.g. traditional and simplified Chinese.  Key in the birth details.  Birth date are in mm/dd/yyyy format.  There is support for date range from 1885 - 2100 to help you in analysis of ancient charts from old books.

For free charting, we pay attention to the 3 commonly used features of Zi Wei chart.

User view shows birth records.  There are additional features for free charting, namely editing the user's information, chart printing.  The Privacy option hides birth details. 

Click on the firth button to reveal more Zi Wei Dou Shu stars.  

Revamped twins feature

The most interesting feature is Twins for the Free edition.

Click the Twins button and an indicator will appear next the button to serve as visual cue with chart changes for twins.  

Zi Wei Chart supports up to 3 twins from your perspective or 4 twin children from the parent's perspective.  You can visit my previous blog entry to see more screen captures of Twins' feature.

For 2026, I made another UI enhancement.  When two stems in single palace sends outgoing transformers to opposing palace, I used a UI trick to enhance the effects below and labelled the transformations!  This is recent cosmetic change for the clunky application 8)

Decade and annual with monthly charts

Zi Wei Chart supports decade, annual and monthly chart details out of the box in the free tier.  I design this UI in 2013-2014 era to view all dynamic time aspects in single pane of glass.  This design gives me flexibility to added content and the design worked perfectly at the paid palace perspective feature.

To see the dynamic time aspects in the chart, follow the steps below

1. Click on the range as shown in screen capture.

2. Click on the lunar year of interest.

3. The annual and monthly charts will appear at top right hand corner.  

Four Transformers energy flow

In this variant of Zi Wei Dou Shu, the 4 transformers take center stage.  Click on the stems and you will see the 4 transformers' energy flow throughout the chart.  To remove the lines, simply click any palace.

Support for San He variant stars

We support beyond 18 Zi Wei Dou Shu stars, bringing the number up to 38 to prevent clutter.  There is no compelling reason to analyse all the 108 stars to be effective.  38 is a good number.  This contrast with the Southeast Asian Si Hua schools who uses 18 stars for commercial reason$.

Added support for minor stars

 I am happy to announce that I ported support for additional minor stars to the Zi Wei Chart from clunky Windows application.

The next screen capture shows the minor stars in Traditional Chinese locale.

As my main effort is to complete the porting work, I will provide rationale for including the minor stars.  Unlike the Northern Si Hua schools, the stubborn Southern Si Hua variants do not support minor stars for commercial reason$.

New Twins user interfaces - up to 3 twins !!

 I was experimenting several user interface ideas to support multiple twins.

After toying with 4 designs, I have decided on this interface.  Now there is support not just for a pair of twins but up to 3 of them!

In the old clunky application, I used a checkbox to denote twins.  In this refresh, I used some web UI tricks to allow users to toggle between twins.  See the screen capture below, a picture speaks a thousand words.

To avoid confusion, when you save the data, take note of the twin's number and input the number in the name!  This is a nifty mechanical trick.  

With this addition, I have surpassed the clone's implementation of the Si Hua Flying Stars web application. 

In addition, I took the opportunity to allow users to plot ancient charts, from 1885 to as recent as 2100.

Updates on the Si Hua Zi Wei application - Localisation

 

It is quite an irony, today when I added support for Simplified and Traditional Chinese.  I will be adding other Western European languages soon if time is kind to me.  I took the opportunity to clean up the localisation and we see how it goes.

The next enhancement is UI related.

In the good old workstation days, graphics or system programming in C or C++ was interesting work after the dark ages of the Assembler.  Web application was one area that you tried to avoid given the horrible slop from the Javascript folks and till today, it continues to stump me that chaps are using hand phones to view 12 palace charts.  We live in a strange world.

Next UI challenge in the horrible world of web application, how to plot a chart for a customer who has triplets 8)

Before you pay money for someone to spoonfed you, put on your thinking cap.  The idea is simple, think of Siblings and set that palace to be Life aspect for your twin doppelganger .  

The other method uses Palace Interchange.  I will briefly describe palace interchange in another blog, yes, free of charge.

When I first introduced the Twin feature in the clunky Si Hua application 10 years ago, I am actually puzzled that some con$ultant wanted to put that nugget in a paid course.  So I guessed I just busted another money making opportunity for another folk, oops.

Launching the Si Hua Zi Wei software online !

Some great news, I have ported the clunky Si Hua software into an experimental web application for Si Hua Zi Wei.

Currently I am reviewing different methods to plot the monthly chart, therefore if the monthly aspects looks weird, do not be alarmed.  

I will probably implement Rick Lim's Dou Jun method.  Rick Lim is one of those rare blokes who mastered the San He and Si Hua systems of Zi Wei Dou Shu.  You can visit the link to support our local author's third book if you are a Si Hua fan.

It is to my understanding that he is one of the strongest Zi Wei masters that I ever meet.

Some Observed Modern Ideas To Monetize Metaphysics After Taken For A Ride For Years

To purchasers of the Zi Wei Flying Stars application, I will be making some important UI changes to the Zi Wei application.   

No worries, all updates are free of charge and there are no plans for subscription fees and more on this.

But first, some clarifications.

I have been consistently told that the interfaces and features are suitable for use 

After the COVID pandemic, I received a request for a Flying Stars Zi Wei phone application.  

Unknown to me, the lady requestor was hoping that I port the app to the phone platform attempt to maximize profit using a inevitable subscription pay wall.  

A Si Hua Zi Wei phone app one of the dumbest idea anyone can conceive.

Reading 4x4 grid charts off a palm size phone screen is one of the strangest ideas floated, even if it is for convenience or emergency, you probably spend more time scrolling around the screen or reaching out for that pair of glass.

One wannabe chap trying his hand at it and failed miserably.  The phone app was disposed and the lady requestor managed to morph the remnants that phone app into a web application pay wall.

That requestor and her new disciple dismissed the 'clunky Windows application that is unsuitable for professional reading or teaching'.  

She apparently forgot that the clunky Windows application helped launched her sideline as Si Hua Zi Wei instructor in 2013. 

Welcome to the brand new world of software monetization aka subscription!

The problem with business folks is they cannot resist that innate business DNA to maximize profit off their customers.

In the existing Windows application, the Si Hua transformer lines appear when your mouse hovers around English stems.   The first change will make the 4 transformers appears when you click on the English stems.

New Software

I am at the final stage of completing software that combines planets, stars and certain elements from East Asia astrology systems.

Some updates for the Flying Stars Si Hua Zi Wei Software in Dec 2022

I made some UI changes to the software regarding the annual Si Hua transformers.  Take note, the annual transformers are indicated near the English stars' text.  

Sharp readers will notice that the software dynamically resizes the stars' text to make room for more stars.

For the annual Si Hua transformer, I picked a larger font with a circle border, to improve readability as some palaces may have more stars when you turn on the Research feature of the software.

Since it is near the end of the 2022 year, it will not hurt a bit to realise that the 18 major stars have a color scheme to provide hints to their elemental mature, for example Tan Lang is vibrant green, representing Yang Wood.

There are some amendments for the San He stars, they are not mainstream in Si Hua and are included for research purposes.

Gentle reminder that the Fei Lian star is not taken from the Bo Shi series.

On top of that, 3 extra stars added, namely 

1. Tian Chu

2. Xian Chi

3. Tian Wu

There are 18 major stars and 32 minor stars and a few more will join in the fray soon.

They will be useful if you are reading some books and their authors' throw in a few minor stars.

Not all Bazi applications are created equally

I usually get this question, why is BaziApp worth $180 when there are many free leisure magazine Bazi software in the market?

Strange, I do not get this question for my Si Hua Zi Wei, Qi Men or Date Selection apps.

Tonight, I decided to use one of my user's question to answer this question.

In this standard chart, BaziApp's artificial intelligence concluded that the bloke is a weak Yi day master with the officer/seven killing star acting as useful deity 用神.  

Take note, not all weak day masters loathe the officer/killing star.  As this is not the main dish, we will not spend half an hour explaining the dynamics of this statement, please consult your Bazi teacher if you are still unclear.

In this case, You 酉 metal is the seven killings 七杀 star and Shen 申 is the direct officer 正官star.

The user is puzzled why BaziApp marked Ding You 丁酉  (2017) as challenging but Bing Shen 丙申 (2016) as favourable? 

BaziApp highlights challenging annual years as black, green as tricky and red as generally useful.  This useful feature is one of the reason why the app is not peddled as free software.

Bug??

This is not a bug, an average Bazi analyst should not make this classical mistake and conclude Ding You 丁酉 is a great year.

In fact, the day master lamented he lost his job in Ding You 丁酉  2017 year with a string of bad luck going forward.

If an machine is able to come to that conclusion using expert systems, it won't be good if a human Bazi analyst makes this elementary mistake.

Classical Bazi is not that simple, neither citing poetry, climate analysis nor having a vague understanding of simple rules/formulae will cut it.

Any Bazi analyst must determine how the annual and 10 year luck pillars interact with the natal chart using classical combinations precisely. 

Some UI updates for the Flying Stars Si Hua Zi Wei software

Dear users,

There is some UI improvements for the Flying Stars Si Hua Zi Wei software.

Kindly drop me an email so that I can send you the latest copy of the software.  

In this example, we notice that the 4 transformers' are located in palaces with repeating stems, hence I denote repeating palaces' with dotted lines.

The Hua Ke transformer is not shown as there are feedback that the screen will be unwieldy too many lines throughout the chart.  If there is enough support, I will reintroduce the that feature back in the app.

To clear the incoming Si Hua lines, you can simply click on Tian Xiang or Qi Sha star.

New experimental feature for Zi Wei application .......

The Build 2019 March has a new experimental feature added, namely Annual Si Hua for the supplementary Class of 2019.

In this example, annual Ji stem sends a Hua Ji transformer to the Wen Qu palace!

As this release is for students who attended the March 2019 Class complementary, it will be released at later date.

How to stop Windows Security from removing the apps !

Windows Security generally assumed my packed applications are malware.

This is the due to the security envelope that I inserted in my application to discourage tampering.

To stop Windows Security from removing my applications, please exempt them from scanning.

Download the app to white-listed folder

Download the apps onto a folder on your computer from Google Drive using Edge or Chrome (avoid Mozilla the crapware).  However it is recommended that you should white-list the folder that the files will downloaded to.  

The next few steps will show you how to white a folder in Windows.

In this example, the user has stored all the apps in a folder for easier backup.  BaziApp and Zi Wei data files are interchangeable, putting them in a same folder is a good choice.

To white list the folder, follow the next few steps for Windows Security.  Mcafee instructions are below this section.  If you are using an ancient version of Windows, you have to type Windows Defender and patiently scroll to look for the Exclusion options.

Click Yes when the User Account Control dialog pops up.

When you try to execute the apps, Windows may complain about the files again as it was downloaded from the Internet.

Use lunar calendar to plot Bazi chart?

This is a very strange question that I received recently for my Bazi application.

The answer is "No".

The next question is likely to be "Will you implement Bazi charting feature based on lunar calendar?"

The answer is "Never in a billion years."

Imagine you are solving mechanics questions using Newton's Equation of Motion on earth, your are using SI units for length e.g. metric system and you decide to use 32.2 feet per second as the acceleration for gravity.  

Your answers will be completely inaccurate.

This is the sorry outcome if you disregard fundamentals and use "pseudo facts" to package a new system.

On a lighter note, I implemented an experimental new feature for Flying Stars Zi Wei Duo Shu software, annual year Si Hua transformers.

The current year is 2019.  The year's heavenly stem is 己/Ji.  

己/Ji sends Hua Quan to Tan Lang, Hua Ji to Wen Qu.  In addition, it sends Hua Ke to Tian Liang.  To differentiate the birth year transformers, some visual cue has been thrown in.

And by the way, please update your Windows with the latest security patches.

The FAQ on intercalary vs non-intercalary Qi Men Ju determination

I cannot avoid this question after users realised my Qi Men applications support both 置闰 or 拆补.  Perhaps my proto-capitalist thinking should sink in, start removing features and start charging a fees for plugins.

Which is better?  Good question.  I post the following passage in a forum in Dec 2015, let me reproduce it with edits for reading clarity.

Some of us may have chanced upon bits of the truth, so allow me help to help you re-arrange them so that you end up confused further. 

There are 3 basic variants of Qi Men Dun Jia from the Zhi Run直润 intercalation/imperial faction.  That gives me 3 charts.  Now if I switch to Chai Bu, then I get another 3 charts.  So in total, I must read six charts.  I may read the other five for fun, I usual pick one to verify a few points or claims.

Since Qi Men Dun Jia is about warfare, by the time I complete reading the six charts, my enemies would have given me a good knock on the head, hmmh, not very efficient.

Now for the answer in an indirect form.

Zhi Run faction: We are the Imperial and Traditionalist in determining the Ju.

Chai Bu faction: Well, we do not understand intercalary, so it must be too complex, so it must be wrong, Chai Bu must be correct, why because late Master Zhang Zhichun said so in one of his books.

Flying Palace faction: Well, they are both wrong if they do not use our method of plotting the chart.

Rotating Palace faction: Ah, there must be a reason why so many guys use rotating method....
This is no different from Bazi or Zi Wei.  There are many factions with many ideas, each stepping on one another to attract attention to themselves, leaving the readers confused.

The Three Kingdoms era's famed politician and military strategist Zhuge Liang is often linked with this art form.

Caveats
Well, then you must learn Si Ma Qi Men Dun Jia, because Sima Yi, outlasted his opponent and became the ultimate victor at the end of the Three Kingdoms era.

Sima Yi: This victory implies Sima Qi Men is more powerful than Kong Ming's Qi Men, do not listen to proto-capitalist zwdsflying, all the talk about Bazi, Zi Wei, luck phases is totally wrong.  Learn Si Ma Qi Men not to smoothen your path, but to change it totally!  The theory about the state of Wei exceeding the economic strength of Shu is nonsense.

Student: Destiny can be warped, like space time?

Sima Yi: Of course, we are merely a small clan, more renowned for academic affairs, hey but I am a great usurper huh, meaning I exceeded my Bazi/Zi Wei limits using Sima Qi Men!

Student: Esteemed Sir, let me learn from you.

On a serious note, please learn Bazi and Zi Wei and buy more apps.  It will give you a firm foundation and nudge you to accept what you cannot change easily.  Or stop supplying the ropes to trip yourself.

Then after a while, you can learn Qi Men Dun Jia.  It may help you to attain what you inherently should attain efficiently. 

The idea is, you cannot choose your parents, but you can select your friends and field of study and adopt Google's 'Do Less Evil'.  Do not use Bazi, Zi Wei, Qi Men or Date Selection for criminal purposes.

If you jump into Qi Men Dun Jia, you probably spend more time grabbing empty air or be utterly confused by 6 charts.  Worse you will tricked into thinking you can buy 4D using Qi Men without giving a hoot to your Zi Wei or Bazi chart.

Lucky Guy: I am rich, lotteries with Qi Men Dun Jia!  Here I come!!
Lucky Guy's ancestors: Gosh, somebody ought to tell him 5 Arts teach people about life to help them understand life or smoothen their path and he is simply drawing on his merits like an overdraft.

Clarifications on the update email

Recently I took an unprecedented step and sent out an email encouraging all my active software users to update their Windows operating system and NET to 4.7

So today, this entry, will be about Windows update and .NET 4.7.


Now Windows 2000 and XP are ancient operating systems and I trying to ensure my apps run on many versions of Windows since 2013.

However, it is impeding progress as some of the latest improvements are available in Windows 10 Creator Edition as the default .NET 4.7 is installed.  

These improvements are for very high definition monitors.  Generally most laptops or desktops are using 120 dpi (dots per inch), the very high end laptops sport 200-300 dpi screens.

For example, .NET Framework 4.7 is supported on the following Windows versions:

• Windows 10 Creators Update (included in-box)
• Windows 10 Anniversary Update
• Windows 8.1
• Windows 7 SP1

Therefore if you are on any of the Windows operating system listed above, you will just need to get the latest .NET 4.7!

In addition, miscreants or opportunists are targeting users who do not patch their Windows operating systems to introduce malware or ransomware.  To avoid falling prey to these low life forms, please patch your Windows operating system using WiFI links and stay alert.

Honestly I have not see any users on XP or Windows 2000 since 2015.  It will be on 'best effort' basis.

Investigating Planetary or Tian Xing Date Selection

Of Heaven, Earth and Human, take note time is missing.

The best representation of the Heavenly aspect, according to the astrology faction, is what you see in the celestial sphere.

Well, it appears to be a simple task to plot the celestial bodies, but a lot of Mathematics is involved, an irony for an occult subject.

After taking a crash course in astronomy and astrology, I discovered the sidereal and tropical schools are still battling for supremacy for many decades and it is still a unresolved war.   That reminds me of Si Hua vs San He, Chai Bu vs Zhi Lun.

I cleared out the 24 mountains and inserted Sun, Moon and planets, north and south nodes (Rahu and Ketu).  In the chart above, I found that Sun and Jupiter were in near opposition on 7 April 2017.  Not so great for lawsuits.  Very interesting.  Anyway I recorded a few cases and file them for future references for possible practical applications.

Back to serious plumbing .... had a hard time locating icons to replace Pure Ganzhi, San Sha, San Qi.  The tooltip will provide a handy explanation of the applets' button.

I replaced the buttons in the option menu with icons to reclaim some space and cleared a few rendering bugs on high resolution monitors.

What is useful in BaziApp?

I often get queries and three of the following questions are the most common ones.

"Why will anyone will pay for Bazi software?!"

"Why is your software special when others are free"

"Others apps can determine the strength, so where is the beef"

I have been labelled as "proto-capitalist" as an insult, but I think it really sounds pleasing to the ears.  

As a proto-capitalist, let me list the interesting features of the Bazi application below.

1.  A good Bazi software should use numerical computation methods to determine the stems and branches.  You probably do not want to be suckered into paying for updates which on hindsight, is a good idea.

Well, I have extended the calendar beyond 2100, get this version before the model changes.....

2.  The natal interactions should be displayed clearly as indicated below.  This is an important feature because 97% of the Bazi software does not have this feature.  One of the best excuses given is "the programmer do not understand Bazi theory, hence he or she has kindly refrained from bias regarding the various different school of thought."

3.   If a Bazi application is able to determine the interactions correctly, it should be able to determine the chart strength with high accuracy rate.  98% of the known Bazi software are quiet on this feature.

4.   Now comes the tricky feature, it will be nice if a software can highlight the potential rewarding and challenging decades.  98% of the known Bazi software choke on this.  

For example, for a weak Jia day master chart, why does the computer thinks that Ding (output) pillar should be rated green?
