However there is a school of thought that flies Ren to Northeast palace based on the Yang Dun.  In that case, Ren lands up in the Northeast palace and that makes it superior to Choo's position in the north palace.  

Whereas if Png's Ren birth year stem, following the traditional school, flies Ren to southwest all the time, then it require more analysis or experience to determine whether the in season Death door is able to defeat Choo's out of season Rest door.

I think this is a good case study but we probably need more examples to see whether it is better to fly Ren to southwest at all times or otherwise depending on the solstice setting.

Qi Men Dun Jia for a by-election case

Around 9th May 2012 noon time, Singapore's PM announced his party's candidate to contest the Hougang by elections.

The by-election was triggered when incumbent Worker's Party (WP) Yaw SL, ex-Hougang Member of Parliament skipped town over his affair with another party member.

Imagine if Admiral Haratio Nelson was to be forced out over his scandalous affair, the English will be taking French lessons.

Let us see what the 9 Palace Qi Men Dun Jia has to say about the contest.  It is considered a lopsided contest because Hougang has  been the Worker's Party stronghold for 20 years.  Despite controlling 80% of the parliamentary seats, Lee's ruling party is unable to wrestle control of Hougang.

This date may look horrible with all the clashes among the branches but according to the Complementary Concept, it is highly useable for certain geomancy applications.

The anglophile (corny) statement for 'Complementary Concept' is 'one man's poison is another man's meat.

In this case, Ding Mao is able to marshal order amid the infighting among the date time pillars, so as the theory of Xuan Kong Da Gua goes.

April 2012 7PM GMT+8 is another highly useable date from Xuan Kong Da Gua date selection perspective. There at at least 3 interesting basic interactions among the date time elements? Do you know them? Oops, some of the hints are given below.


However there are subtle inherent weakness in this date. Remember, there is no such thing as a perfect date.

Now while we know this is a above average date time from Xuan Kong Da Gua perspective (assuming we did not consider the owner and dwelling), we can further refine it using Nine Palace Qi Men Dun Jia. The map (Zhi Lun, Rotating Palace) does not bode well but on closer analysis, it is useable and if you do a simple mathematics, southeast and northwest are the best directions. For the blokes who house sit/face this axis, it is your lucky hour. To make the full use of this time will require some conditions. If it was so easily, Singapore will be full of billionaires.

This is a 7 Stars Robbery and '4 of a Kind' Xuan Kong Da Gua date structure. Poker players will know 4 of a Kind is a very good hand.

The Chinese mandarin name is elegant 一卦纯清.

It can be considered a 同流格 for the date stems.

Despite the clash in the earthly, this date is highly useable if unique conditions are present. Using 'Complementary Theory', this date is also not suitable for some scenarios despite the fact we have 七星打劫 and 一卦纯清.

I was mucking around the home brew Xuan Kong Da Gua software, quashing a few bugs with inputs from testers when I remembered this old thread.

I was thinking why Xuan Kong Da Gua style 7 Stars Robbery date times are rare?

Why not run a trivial utility and and determine the number of 7 Stars Robbery date times for the next 100 years. This brings back memories the old university days when we put in punch in some parameters and analyse the computer simulation results after lunch.

Heck, its only a few lines of code.

Ok, the results are interesting......they are in the screen capture below. Date time is generated for GMT +8 time, longitude 120 using a 2 hour time division.

For the blokes who can play with the hexagrams and family/parent gua formations, they can easily drum up applications for this date. Yes, despite the rarity of this date, not every bloke or house can use it properly and you have to be nice to the people around you for starters, whats why a good donation to orphanage is good before a nice holiday.

Maybe i will run the program for the next 100 years...

Apparently those high mental dexterity or experience will probably have their own manual tricks. Master Zhang, in his Xuan Kong Da Gua date selection book has an example in the 1930s but with a modern computer, it becomes simpler.

Weeding out Family gua taboos in Xuan Kong Da Gua date selection is a tedious event. Most Xuan Kong Da Gua date selection entry level utility will probably give taboos a miss.

Some practitioners swear by it while others plainly ignore it

The best way to test if a computer utility is useful is to run it and note whether it make life easy for humans.

Of course a defence team could make a case for Geng Yin pillar having an evil Xuan Kong numeral twin. Hence date selection, even with computer automation, bad hair days are possible.

To achieve the best of both worlds, automation and maintain mental dexterity is ideal. To bash one and wholeheartedly skew towards the other, vice versa will result in many wild goose chases.

It will be an awful waste not to use this time even there is something insidious about the gender again. But gender taboos can be defended, unfortunately by selecting the correct activity.

Want to take a crack on possible weakness for this date?

The Si-Hai clash, using the family relation can be defended. The house sitting Chou was briefly discounted using a Wu month.

The main weakness is more insidious. It comes from the interaction between date time's month-year against the dweller's year pillar. There seems to be indeterminate gender. Dweller child gua meeting different and competing parent guas in month and year.

Dweller birth year XK numerals could be child of Xun or Kan group and coincidentally meets Xun and Kan parent in the date time month and year pillars

Wicked question, if variant 1 is correct, how serious is violating indeterminate gender taboo?

We can use other date selection systems other than Xuan Kong Da Gua. Let us take a look at the 9 Palace Qi Men Dun Jia for 18th June 2010, 9-11AM GMT+8.

The saving grace is the Wu stem is in a good palace, south west and 天辅时辰 may defend the defects in the gender indeterminate taboo earlier but alas 8 Door Fan Yin.

Therefore it makes better business sense to do just Feng Shui rather than date selection. The amount of work for date selection is not as simple as plotting a few charts or using powerful computing aids.
