For the beginner, it is a tedious and exhausting book. You certainly need to have some understanding on various Chinese metaphysical systems to appreciate certain chapters. The chapter on Conditional Interactions assumes He-Tu knowledge.

Mr Lippelt writes a two good books for readers with an intermediate knowledge of Flying Stars. He shares many of his insights and interesting questions with the readers. You may not agree with all his conclusions but they present a new level of critical depth. However the first book has scant information regarding Eight Mansions. Book II seems like a rehash of Book 1 but presents many cook book information of various Water Formulae.
